A king and a queen lived in a fine kingdom, but they had no children, and this made them very sad.One day, the queen found a little fish by the river and gently put it back into the water.The fish thanked her and said she would soon have a beautiful daughter.
Soon, the queen had a baby girl, and the king planned a great feast to celebrate.He invited twelve fairies to bless the baby, but the thirteenth fairy was forgotten.One by one, the fairies gave the princess wonderful gifts: beauty, kindness, and grace.
Suddenly, the angry thirteenth fairy appeared and put a curse on the baby.She said that on her fifteenth birthday, the princess would touch a spindle and die.A kind fairy who had not yet given her gift softened the curse: the princess would only fall asleep for a hundred years.
The worried king ordered every spindle in the kingdom to be burned.But on her fifteenth birthday, the princess found an old woman spinning thread in a hidden tower.She touched the strange spindle, and she fell into a deep, magical sleep at once.
At that very moment, everyone in the castle fell asleep too, from the king to the smallest mouse.A tall, thick hedge of thorns grew up around the whole castle, hiding it from the world.For a hundred years, many princes tried to reach the sleeping princess, but the thorns always stopped them.
At last, exactly a hundred years later, a young prince walked through the hedge with ease, for the time had come.He found the princess asleep in the tower, and when he gently kissed her, she opened her eyes, and the whole castle awoke with her.

어느 왕국에 왕과 왕비가 살고 있었지만, 아이가 없어서 늘 마음이 아팠어요. 어느 날 왕비는 강가에서 작은 물고기 한 마리를 발견하고, 살며시 다시 물속에 놓아주었어요. 물고기는 고마워하며, 왕비가 곧 아름다운 딸을 낳게 될 거라고 말했어요.
얼마 후 왕비는 예쁜 딸을 낳았고, 왕은 이를 축하하기 위해 성대한 잔치를 열기로 했어요. 왕은 요정 열두 명을 초대해 아기에게 축복을 내려 달라고 했지만, 열세 번째 요정은 그만 초대를 잊고 말았어요. 요정들은 차례로 다가와 공주에게 아름다움과 상냥함, 우아함 같은 멋진 선물을 주었어요.
그때 화가 난 열세 번째 요정이 나타나 아기에게 저주를 걸었어요. 그녀는 공주가 열다섯 살이 되는 날 물렛가락에 찔려 죽게 될 거라고 말했어요. 아직 선물을 주지 않은 착한 요정이 저주를 조금 누그러뜨려, 공주는 죽는 대신 백 년 동안 잠들게 될 거라고 했어요.
걱정된 왕은 온 나라의 물렛가락을 모두 불태우라고 명령했어요. 하지만 열다섯 살이 되던 날, 공주는 숨겨진 탑에서 물렛가락으로 실을 잣고 있는 한 노파를 만났어요. 공주가 낯선 물렛가락을 만지자마자, 그녀는 곧바로 깊고 신비한 잠에 빠지고 말았어요.
바로 그 순간, 왕부터 작은 생쥐 한 마리까지 성 안의 모든 것이 함께 잠들어 버렸어요. 성 주위에는 크고 두꺼운 가시덤불이 자라나, 성 전체를 세상으로부터 감춰 버렸어요. 백 년 동안 많은 왕자들이 잠든 공주에게 다가가려 했지만, 가시덤불이 늘 그들을 막아섰어요.
마침내 정확히 백 년이 흐른 날, 한 젊은 왕자가 아무 어려움 없이 가시덤불을 지나갔어요. 때가 되었기 때문이에요. 왕자는 탑에서 잠든 공주를 발견했고, 그가 살며시 입을 맞추자 공주가 눈을 뜨며 성 전체가 함께 깨어났어요.
