A little girl always wore a red hood her grandmother had made for her, so everyone called her Little Red Riding Hood. One day her mother said, "Grandmother is ill. Take her this cake and be a good girl.""Walk straight to her house through the wood," said her mother, "and do not leave the path."
On the way, Little Red Riding Hood met a big wolf, but she did not know that wolves were dangerous."Where are you going?" asked the wolf, and she told him, "To my grandmother's house at the end of the wood.""Look at the pretty flowers," said the wolf. "Why not pick some for her?"
So Little Red Riding Hood left the path and picked flower after flower, going deeper into the wood. The wolf ran to Grandmother's house, opened his big mouth, and swallowed her whole. Then he put on Grandmother's cap and climbed into her bed to wait.
When Little Red Riding Hood came in, she thought Grandmother looked very strange."Grandmother, what big eyes you have!" "All the better to see you with.""Grandmother, what a big mouth you have!" "All the better to eat you with!" — and the wolf swallowed her too.
The wolf lay down in the bed and soon fell fast asleep, snoring very loudly.A huntsman was passing and heard the noise. "That is not Grandmother," he thought, and he went inside. He saw the wolf, took his knife, and carefully cut the sleeping wolf open.
Out jumped Little Red Riding Hood, and then Grandmother — both safe and well! The huntsman took the wolf far away, and Little Red Riding Hood said, "I will never leave the path again."
