Near the end of the book, Allen turns from warnings to hope. This chapter, ‘Visions and Ideals’, is about the power of a clear dream.

“The dreamers are the saviours of the world. Composers, painters, poets and thinkers are the builders of the world to come.Whoever holds a beautiful vision in their heart will one day make it real. The oak sleeps in the acorn, and the bird waits in the egg.Dreams are the seeds of reality.

Picture a young man, poor and uneducated, who works long hours in an unhealthy workshop. But he dreams of a better life, and he uses all his spare time and money, small as they are, to develop himself.Soon the workshop can no longer hold him, and he leaves it behind like an old coat.

Seeing a man grow rich, thoughtless people say, ‘How lucky he is!’They do not see the failures, the struggles and the sacrifices; they see only the result and call it luck.In all human affairs there are efforts, and there are results, and the strength of the effort is the measure of the result.”

What this means for your money
