Wattles says there are two ways to get rich: the competitive way, by taking from others, and the creative way, by adding to the world. In this chapter he explains how honest business fits the creative way.
“You do not need to deal with other people unfairly, or to get something for nothing; you can give every person more than you take from him.You cannot give every person more in cash value than you take, but you can give him more in use value than the cash value of what you take. The paper and ink in this book may not be worth the money you paid for it.But if the ideas in it bring you thousands of dollars, the people who sold it to you have not cheated you; they have given you a great use value for a small cash value.
When you rise from the competitive to the creative way, look carefully at every business deal you make.If you are selling anyone something that does not add more to his life than what he gives you, you can afford to stop. You do not have to beat anybody in business, and if you are in a business that beats people, get out of it at once.Give every person more in use value than you take from him in cash value; then you are adding to the life of the world with every deal.
If you have people working for you, you can run your business so that each worker who wishes can move forward a little every day.Your business can be a kind of ladder, by which every employee who takes the trouble may climb to riches himself.”

What this means for your money
