아주 추운 겨울날이었어요.하늘에서 하얀 눈이 펑펑 내렸어요.바람도 아주 세게 불었어요.
서울 종로 네거리에 어린 거지가 있었어요.아이는 얇은 옷을 입고 덜덜 떨었어요.“돈 한 푼만 주세요!”하지만 아무도 아이를 쳐다보지 않았어요.
그때 여학생 세 명이 그 앞을 지나갔어요.한 소녀는 10전을 주었어요.다른 소녀는 5전을 주었어요.마지막 소녀는 집이 가난해서 돈이 없었어요.
소녀는 거지 아이를 한참 바라보았어요.소녀의 눈에 눈물이 가득 고였어요.소녀는 아이에게 다가가서 이마에 따뜻하게 입을 맞추었어요.소녀의 눈물이 아이의 뺨에 떨어졌어요.
아이는 소녀의 얼굴을 가만히 쳐다보았어요.그리고 옆에 있는 꽃집으로 뛰어갔어요.아이는 15전을 다 주고 예쁜 꽃 한 다발을 샀어요.아이는 그 꽃을 마지막 소녀에게 주었어요.아이의 얼굴에도 눈물이 흘렀어요.

It was a very cold winter day. White snow was falling thick and fast. The wind was blowing very hard, too.
There was a little beggar at the Jongno crossroads in Seoul. The child wore thin clothes and shivered. "Please, just one penny!" But nobody even looked at the child.
Just then, three schoolgirls walked past. One girl gave ten jeon. Another girl gave five jeon. The last girl came from a poor family and had no money.
The girl looked at the beggar child for a long time. Her eyes filled with tears. She went up to the child and gave him a warm kiss on the forehead. Her tears fell on the child's cheek.
The child gazed quietly at her face. Then he ran to a flower shop nearby. He spent all fifteen jeon on a pretty bunch of flowers. He gave the flowers to the last girl. Tears ran down his face, too.
