구운몽: 두 공주

While Soyu was away at the war, Princess Nanyang grew curious about what kind of person Jeong Gyeongpae was. Dressed as an ordinary woman, the princess secretly went to see Gyeongpae, and they talked as they did embroidery together. The two of them were soon charmed by each other's gifts and kindness, and became as close as sisters.

Back at the palace, the princess made an earnest plea to the Empress Dowager. "We cannot make someone as fine as Lady Gyeongpae unhappy. Please take her as your daughter, and let us both marry General Yang." The Empress Dowager met Gyeongpae herself, was deeply impressed, and adopted her, giving her the title Princess Yeongyang.

At last Soyu returned to the capital in victory. But when he went to Minister Jeong's house, everyone there told him with sad faces that Gyeongpae had fallen ill and died. Soyu was so grief-stricken that for days he could not eat.

The emperor ordered Soyu to marry the two princesses, and with a heavy heart Soyu went through the wedding. But on the wedding day, when he saw Princess Yeongyang's face, Soyu was so astonished that he could not speak. Princess Yeongyang was none other than Jeong Gyeongpae, who was supposed to have died.

It was Gyeongpae's last trick, to pay Soyu back for fooling her with the zither. Soyu laughed heartily and asked Gyeongpae whether the debt was finally paid in full.

Before long, Jin Chaebong, Ga Chunun, Gye Seomwol, Jeok Gyeonghong, Sim Yoyeon and Baek Neungpa all came, one after another, to be at Soyu's side. So Soyu came to have two wives and six concubines, and the eight women lived together as happily as sisters. Soyu became prime minister and enjoyed wealth and glory for many years.
